Several gambling ring suspects slapped with $300 fine - 2003-03-12
Five of 14 people accused in a Penn Hills gambling ring were commanded by District Justice Leonard Hromyak on Monday to face summary charges of disorderly conduct. Robert Strauch, 62, of 1507 Nash Ave., Penn Hills; Fred Davis, 47, of 6362 Edby St., Squirrel Hill; Lawrence Scafuri II, 58, of 637 Ninth St., Oakmont, each were fined $300 for possessing 10 video poker machines at Silks Unlimited, 12911 Frankstown Road.

Gambler sentenced for not repaying $3 million - 2003-03-12
A businessman who prosecutors say gambled away as much as $12 million in one day on the Las Vegas baccarat tables was put on probation Tuesday for failing to pay his casino markers.

As part of his plea agreement, Robert Ben was ordered to pay $3 million in restitution to several of Las Vegas' most popular casinos.

"I'm saddened by this case because it is the American Dream gone awry," Zadrowski stated outside of court. "He got into gambling."
