Senate panel begins gambling hearings - 2003-03-13
With proponents hoping the state's budget problems will assist in their cause, a Senate panel opened two days of testimony Wednesday on proposals to broaden legal gambling in Kansas.

Among the efforts is a plan for a casino including Branson-style entertainment on the banks of the Kansas River in Wyandotte County.

Jagr claims he paid off gambling debt - 2003-03-13
Jaromir Jagr admitted Wednesday that he made mistakes when he lost $500,000 gambling through an online gambling site, but he insisted he paid the debt four years ago and did nothing illegal.

"It was 1998, and I made mistakes," Jagr revealed to reporters following the Washington Capitals' practice.
