GBC slots position exceeds limit - 2003-03-24
The Greater Baltimore Committee's (GBC) recommendation to permit competition to be brought into the state's process of awarding gambling licenses appears nice at first glance.

Would a deal to bring gambling to the Inner Harbor look, on paper, much more enticing economically than a proposal to place slot machines at Pimlico? Certainly. But who, besides some folks with vested interests, trusts that Inner Harbor gambling is a good idea?

Additional bill may pre-empt Helena’s smoking ordinance - 2003-03-24
An additional bill that would pre-empt Helena’s smoking ordinance was brought in the House Friday. H.B. 758, sponsored by Rep. Ron Devlin, R-Terry, would exempt from local smoking control any companies that have video gambling machines.

The bill, which also involve a modest adjustment to the licensing fees paid by casino owners for their machines, was referred to the House Taxation Committee after primary reading Friday.
