Tacoma Police Spokesman Resigns For Casino Job - 2004-01-21
Officer Jim Mattheis, a 23-year city police veteran and public information officer for the last ten years, is retiring to go to work at a casino.

Mattheis stated that he would begin work as director of security and risk management at the Lucky Eagle Casino in Chehalis on Feb. 1, two weeks prior to his retirement date.

Casinos' revenue increased 9% last year - 2004-01-21
The three riverboat casinos that function in the Greater Cincinnati market brought in 9 percent more money in 2003 than they did in 2002. New end-of-year figures show gamblers left an amount of $684 million on the tables and in the slots of the three Indiana casinos.

Last year's hikes in casino revenue and taxes "continues to debunk the myth" about gambling revenue not being dependable, one of the worries cited by opponents of expanded gambling, stated Bob Elliston, president of Turfway Park in Boone County.
