With the state budget deficit estimated at $15 billion dollars, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is expecting to tap into Indian gaming profits to buttress the state's coffers.

While Indian casinos do not need to disclose their annual income, their take is estimated at $5 billion annually. Ex-Governor Gray Davis made overtures to reach a deal with the tribes but his work fell short following failed negotiations over proposed contributions from tribes, lowering an initial target of a $1.5 billion to $680 million without success.
