Chippewa Band to disclose older casino audits - 2004-01-27
The Mille Lacs Band of Chippewa has agreed to disclose old audits of its casino operations but continues to reject disclosing more recent financial statements.

"The band made the decision to terminate this lawsuit in light of the growing age of the information, the cost of continuing to fight and the fact that some more recent financial data from the casinos has been reported," stated Wally Hilke, an attorney representing the band.

Riverboats present proposal to evade cruise requirements - 2004-01-27
Representatives of riverboat casinos floated a plan to Iowa lawmakers Monday that would permit them to forgo a cruising requirement if they offer the state an additional 1 percent of their earnings in taxes.

The proposal would increase the tax rates from 20 to 21 percent of revenues. Floating barge casinos would offer a 22 percent tax rate under the proposal.
