Plan forges ahead to cease tribal slot machine monopoly - 2004-01-27
Proponents working to end Indian tribes' monopoly on slot machines moved a step closer to having their measure on the ballot Monday, but police chiefs promised to fight the plan that would expand gambling across the state.

The California Police Chiefs Association contests putting 30,000 slot machines in 16 urban locations. Hollywood Park in Inglewood would become one of the world's biggest casinos, and even the smallest casinos would have several hundred slot machines, the association stated.
