A year after the development of western New York's first casino, the drinks are flowing in a decidedly Niagara-like way at Cafe Etc., a martini bar that Steve Fournier Jr. opened just around the corner.

But last Monday, Mr. Fournier's father closed his pizza shop next door after nearly a quarter-century of operating businesses in the decaying downtown tourist district.

Casino plan thoughtless - 2004-01-03
The proposal to construct an Indian casino east of Denver International Airport should be stopped before it even gets off the ground.

Contrary to proponents' claims, the plan has nothing to do with thoughtful, ongoing efforts to honor victims of the Sand Creek Massacre. Moreover, it's clear that Colorado voters don't want more gambling in this state, as just last fall they overwhelmingly rejected another gaming proposal.
