The folks at the Birch Grove Foundation are excited about the new owners of the Lake Superior Hostel at Birch Grove Center. DC (Allan) and Sue Olsen have bought the business and are very competently operating the Hostel.

Casino nights for huge money were a serious source of income for some churches. This was all sort of secretive. If a country club had a gambling room it was not in the front of the club, but in a private location.

Dice on ice: Tribe revokes proposal for hotel - 2004-01-30
Stymied because they can't get endorsements for a Portland casino, the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde have chosen to revoke their bid to construct an 800-room headquarters hotel at the Oregon Convention Center.

Last year, the governor cut the Grand Ronde's offer to promise the bonds for a major league baseball stadium in Portland, in exchange for authorization to establish a casino in the city.
