Committee declines tribes’ slots bid - 2004-01-30
The state’s two biggest Indian tribes may not be permitted to run slot machines based on a vote by a legislative committee that crafts rules for gambling in the state.

Still, declining the plan was viewed by tribal leaders as a burden on already unresolved relations with the state, where voters in November beat a proposal for an Indian casino in southern Maine.
