Landmark Castaways casino shuts down - 2004-01-30
The Castaways shut down its casino and hotel Thursday, leaving around 800 employees out of work at the 49-year-old property previously known as the Showboat.

The end of a second historic Las Vegas casino this month followed after creditor Vestin Mortgage, acting under authority of a U.S. Bankruptcy Court order, informed Castaways owner VSS Enterprises it would go on the premises of casino and gather its collateral backing a mortgage loan.

Illinois could enter into casino industry - 2004-01-30
Illinois would be the first state to have a casino if a proposal by a Pennsylvania company for the state's only remaining gaming license wins at an upcoming auction.

The proposal, sources stated, would see Penn National Gaming, which owns Hollywood Casino in Aurora, give upwards of $500 million for the license and sell it back to the state for $1.
