Perrin bids for Sky TV - 2004-01-05
Ex-Billabong chief executive Matthew Perrin has come up as the head of a syndicate vying for the television rights for horse racing in NSW and Victoria.

The bid for the TV rights comes in the middle of a battle for control of the Australian gambling market with NSW's TAB - owner of Sky Channel - under siege from Victoria's Tabcorp and Queensland's Unitab.

State Comptroller suggests possible electronic gambling for revenue - 2004-01-05
Texas State Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn has told a House committee that Texas is being removed of more than $1 billion yearly by other states who are involved in electronic gaming.

Gaming, another word for gambling, has been a heated issue this past year as state revenues have dropped due to the economic decline and partly by the events of 9-11. But Strayhorn is convinced that Texas is missing out on a viable funding source that other states have seemingly embraced.
