Net looks set to clamp down on plundering criminals - 2004-01-07
Crimes involving illegal gambling, intellectual property piracy, and bid fixing for government projects will be deemed offences under the money laundering law if the Cabinet supports yesterday's resolution by its screening committee.

The Cabinet's Seventh Screening Committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Vishanu Krua-ngam, yesterday endorsed a draft amendment proposed by the Anti-Money Laundering Office that seeks to place more crimes under jurisdiction, a source said.

About 100 people sign up each month to permanently ban themselves from Missouri's casinos. Admitting they cannot control their gambling, they agree to stay away - or dealt trespassing charges.

Some later change their minds and ask to be taken off the banned list. But state regulators have consistently said no, reasoning that compulsive gambling is a lifetime addiction.
