Legislators suggest brand-new casino taxes - 2004-02-10
Republican legislators were drafting a bill Tuesday to create a property tax on casinos that will be looked at if a deal cannot be negotiated with racetracks to forgive back taxes the Iowa Supreme Court claims the state owes.

The racetrack casinos sued the state, saying the two-tiered tax breached the Iowa Constitution. The state was taxing riverboat casinos at 20 percent and racetracks at a greater rate created to reach 36 percent next year.

Pinnacle seeks to build two casino facilities in St. Louis - 2004-02-10
Pinnacle Entertainment is taking a gamble on the St. Louis region.
The Las Vegas-based company's plan to establish a $300 million casino complex in south St. Louis County defeated Isle of Capri's proposal Tuesday, setting up Pinnacle to contruct two new casinos in the city and county.

The proposals face additional authorizations before they can move ahead.
St. Louis County Port Authority commissioners supported the choice of Pinnacle, made by a selection committee.
