Coushattas debate who is in control - 2004-02-10
A battle has broken out regarding the leadership of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, which runs the Grand Casino Coushatta east of Lake Charles.

Sickey and John revealed Monday they are overseeing the tribe's daily functions, including those at the Grand Casino Coushatta. The tribe constructed the state's biggest land casino in Kinder in the mid-1990s. It generates about $300 million a year, according to gambling industry estimates.

Casino Opponents Want Law Against Petitioning For Tribal Acknowledgement - 2004-02-10
Opponents of casino gambling in Connecticut pledged Monday to seek federal legislation that would check the role of lobbying in Washington by Indian tribes looking for acknowledgement.

Locals disclosed that they fear the prospect of a casino in western Connecticut and cautioned a rise in development similar to what has followed the building of the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos in eastern Connecticut.
