Internal Reports Indicate Problems With West Warwick Casino Project - 2004-02-10
Foes of a proposed West Warwick casino revealed that internal documents from the would-be developer show that a full-scale casino would hurt the state's two current gambling sites and generate less profit for Rhode Island.

But casino developer Harrah's Entertainment Inc. stated that the casino's critics are misreading the studies.

Rhode Island AG Seeks Commission To Direct Authorized Casino Industry - 2004-02-10
The gambling industry in Rhode Island needs stricter regulation to keep corruption out, Attorney General Patrick Lynch said Monday as he disclosed legislation that would give his office the power to research and supervise casinos and other gambling enterprises.

The Indian tribe's venue would need voter authorization. If the casino measure is placed on the November ballot and supported by voters, “we will have a mechanism in place to make sure proper gaming can take place,” stated one of the bill's sponsors, Rep. Peter Kilmartin, D-Pawtucket.
