Proposed tribe-county agreement disputed - 2004-02-11
An estimated 150 people crowded a public hearing Tuesday on a proposed deal between the Cowlitz Tribe and Clark County.
The majority of those who stood up to speak to the county commissioners found flaws with the plan and insisted it include more environmental securities and guarantees that the tribe will follow county rules.

"We can't keep them from building a casino or putting land into trust, we can only approve (the agreement) or not," Morris declared. She also thanked the tribe for consulting the county to form a deal.

Wapello County backs casino lobbyist - 2004-02-11
Several hundred possible new jobs is worth a couple thousand dollars, the Wapello County Board of Supervisors determined Tuesday night.
Supervisors split 2-1 on a deal to help pay a lobbyist for assistance getting the state to authorize new casinos. Chairman Mike Petersen and Supervisor Steve Siegel approved the bill.

The $2,500 the county will pay as part of the agreement is a deal when projected benefits of a casino are contemplated, Siegel explained.
