Cashing in the casino dollars - 2004-02-11
If the Narragansett Indian Tribe gets its way, West Warwick, Rhode Island, will evolve into a home to its new $450 million fantasy casino.

As proposed, the casino will include 3,500 gambling stations, assorted types of entertainment and a plush 500-room hotel. It is, of course, a matter for the state's legislature to look into full measure before pulling the yes lever on the one-armed bandit.

Most recently, the press rushed to cover the awful final gasp of the foundering Castaways casino, once known as the Showboat. The Castaways shut down Jan. 29 after 49 years in business and drove 800 people into unemployment.
