Borgata rules: Casino profits go up 9.7% in January - 2004-02-11
Atlantic City casino profits rose 9.7 percent in January from the year-earlier period, boosted by the launching of the Borgata casino in July. Ten of the city's 12 casinos indicated they had lower results.
Revenue in the No. 2 U.S. casino market increased to $366.5 million, from $334 million, the state's Casino Control Commission stated. Winnings from slot machines increased 8.7 percent to $259.1 million, while table-game earnings increased 12.4 percent to $107.4 million.

Tribe, Tacoma port agree on a deal for casino - 2004-02-11
The Puyallup Tribe has garnered support from the Port of Tacoma in its attempts to establish a third casino on reservation land.
In return, the tribe threw out its objection to the port shutting down a street by its Emerald Queen Casino for a planned $210 million container terminal.

The tribe also runs an additional casino close to Interstate 5 in East Tacoma. Where to construct the third one is being reviewed, Puyallup Tribal Chairman Bill Sterud said Monday. The tribe is also contemplating the possible relocation of the Emerald Queen.
