Hazel Crest stands up in opposition of gaming license - 2004-02-12
The Hazel Crest Village Board Tuesday declined a resolution to defend gaming in neighboring Country Club Hills, according to a village spokeswoman.

The rejection may cost the village a possible $700,000 in annual profits that Country Club Hills Mayor Dwight Welch is suggesting to divide up if the city lands the state's last casino license.

Close to 100 locals attended the meeting to encourage trustees to oppose the casino that would be on the village's doorstep, as reported by Mary Paleologos, village spokeswoman.

Bonacic presents casino gaming revision - 2004-02-12
Claiming he is “very frustrated” that Native American casino gaming has not motioned forward in New York, Senator John Bonacic of Mt. Hope yesterday brought in legislation to alter the state constitution to allow non-Native American casino gaming.

In 2001, the legislature supported a law, which was signed by the governor, allowing three Native American casinos in Ulster and Sullivan counties.
