Horse industry eases stance on casinos - 2004-02-12
The push to extend gambling is still alive, after a softening of racetracks' opposition to casinos at places other than tracks, if the horse industry gets a portion of the profit.

Clark had given the tracks until yesterday to accord to share casinos, or forget legislation this session. "They have agreed to the concept" of a blend of casinos at tracks and elsewhere, Clark explained following the meeting.

What a joy to see the article "Funds from tribes' casinos help school districts" on the first page of The Republic on Monday.
Now my retired father can label his addiction to casino gambling as a charitable donation. I feel so much more at ease.

But maybe we should demand that the casino operators create a fund for elderly, indigent gambling addicts. People like my dad are going to require some funding after they run through their retirement money and can't afford the assisted-living or nursing facility.
