Region jumping with excitement this weekend - 2004-02-13
Love, leisure and Paul Anka. Three reasons hotels in the region are crowded.
A blend of Valentine's Day, the President's Day holiday weekend and various offerings at the local casinos has led to a huge number of bookings at local hotels.

Foxwoods Resort Casino is watching business come in, reported Bruce MacDonald, a spokesman for the casino.
If the amount of people anxious to gamble on Friday the 13th is high, the casinos also have a pretty busy entertainment schedule.

Phony check manufacturers taken into custody - 2004-02-13
Members of a counterfeit check manufacturing scheme were taken into custody Tuesday at a local motel and one of the casinos.
Police also seized a computer, printers, software for making bogus checks, full fake checks and blank papers capable of generating hundreds more.

Ellis was not in the room, but deputies arrested him later at Feather Falls Casino.
Rodriguez was booked into Butte County Jail on suspicion of producing fictitious checks, two warrants and possession of drug paraphernalia, $15,750 bail.
