Commission wants clarity on casino tax legislations - 2004-02-13
The state Tax Commission wants lawmakers to "clear up the law" on whether the agency has the right to calculate casino tax bills and to choose whether free-play credits casinos give gamblers are taxable.
Chancellor Carter Bise gave summary judgment to Beau Rivage, deciding that the state Gaming Commission, not the Tax Commission, has right to calculate casino tax bills under current law.

In 2000, Beau Rivage, following the lead of Las Vegas casinos, starting giving free-play credits to slot machine gamblers, who could use the credits to play slots for free.

Pull-tab gambling thrown out - 2004-02-13
The prospects for electronic pull-tab gambling, viewed as a bailout for the state's ailing horse racing industry, ended Thursday as Indiana Senate leaders stated that they did not want to do more gambling development.

"I've made it no secret that I'm not in favor of expanding land-based casinos," Garton, R-Columbus, stated. "If we did it, then next year, the investors would be back trying for roulette and everything else."
