Oddsmakers saw a striking increase in Super Bowl gambling thanks to a favorable point spread given to the Carolina Panthers and a belief that the New England Patriots would win the championship game by more than a touchdown.

John Avello, director of Race & Sports Book operations at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas, stated that his casinos barely had enough space to house all the gamblers.

An argument arose on the House of Delegates floor Thursday over legislation abolishing casino-related names and signs on video lottery businesses, with Republican legislators attempting to pull the plug on all video lottery machines in the state.

Ultimately, the only amendment adopted Thursday in the hourlong-plus debate would permit video lottery operators to pose outdoor gambling-related signs designed and distributed by the state Lottery Commission, or other signs authorized by the commission.
