Pawlenty offers choices for casino - 2004-02-07
Indicating Friday that he wants a long-term policy for gambling instead of a piecemeal approach, Gov. Tim Pawlenty has commenced to put some details behind his State of the State commitment to take a fresh look at American Indian gaming compacts.

The state could approve various types of games at tribal casinos or new facilities, with any new profit to be shared with the state.

With one major vote completed, the sponsor of a casino gambling project in the Legislature is certain prospects are good for the measure to show up on the November ballot.

The pressure of petitions distributed to legalize casino gambling assisted in motivating legislators to act this year, while they have balked in the past, Schimek stated.
