Introducing... Belle Vue, the new Las Vegas? - 2004-02-07
Manchester's historic Belle Vue race stadium could be confronted with a new future as a Las Vegas-style gambling emporium.
If that actually occurs, the race track could be transformed into a gaming complex with an on-site casino.

Belle Vue is now a part of the £270m leisure group Wembley plc, which has been sought after by US-based MGM Mirage.

It's a weekday lunchtime in Edinburgh’s Tollcross, and rain covers the full-length windows of Britain’s first online betting shop. Inside the light, airy Easibet café, the coffee machine hisses as Kenzo, the waiter, froths milk for cappuccinos.

Yet they are a common group of the burgeoning population of female gamblers. They purchase lottery tickets most weeks, placing their bets on regular numbers. All four have visited casinos, where women represent around a third of visitors.
