Gov.'s gambling project is a sad bet for majority of community - 2004-02-09
Gov. Ed Rendell’s most recent gambling development project seems to supply plenty of gaming for very little public profit.
Rendell’s plan is exceedingly generous to the track and casino owners. And it comes at the expense of the state’s property owners.

Surely taxpayers are entitled to a better agreement from 60,000 slots machines than a few crumbs, even if they do total to about $1 billion.

Rendell project could place slots in Poconos - 2004-02-09
Gov. Ed Rendell is attempting to restart delayed negotiations over slot machines, proposing his own version of a law that could land the one-armed bandits in the Poconos.
Rendell's proposal supplies for 12 total slot casinos in the state - one more than the plan passed by the House, and four more than the Senate's bill.

The governor seeks to have slots parlors at eight horse racetracks, including the Downs at Pocono in Plains Township.
